💬 Common Questions About At‑Home Euthanasia
How do I set up for the appointment?
Choose a comfortable location, pick a quiet, easily accessible spot where your pet is most comfortable. This could be their favorite resting spot, or a quiet area with minimal traffic.
Make the area comfortable and provide a thick blanket or pet bed for your pet to lay on. You can also include their favorite toys. We will provide soft blankets to swaddle and transport your pet if cremation is the aftercare plan you have chosen.
How long does the appointment take?
Most visits last around an hour to an hour and a half. We take the time needed to walk you through the process gently and allow space for goodbyes. We will move at the pace you are comfortable with.
What happens afterward?
You have enough going on and we want to support you by fully handling all of the after care wishes you may have. We’ll review these options with you beforehand so when emotions are raw you don’t have to make difficult decisions.
Why is in-home euthanasia a better option for my pet than a hospital euthanasia?
Saying goodbye to your pet at home has a number of benefits for you and your pet, including:
-The ability to schedule your pet’s appointment at a time convenient for everyone, including after normal hospital hours, and on short notice
-Allowing your pet to be in their own surroundings, where they are relaxed and less anxious
-Allowing your pet to be in their favorite location, with familiar smells
-Less stress for pets who are difficult to move
-The presence of other household pets, which can allow faster healing after the loss of their friend
-Allowing more family members to be present than in a small veterinary office
-The ability to bury your pet, if desired, without difficult transportation issues
-The ability to grieve for your pet in peace
Can I stay with my pet during the euthanasia?
Yes. We encourage you to be present if you feel comfortable. This allows your pet to remain calm, comforted, and surrounded by love.Yes. We encourage you to be present if you feel comfortable. This allows your pet to remain calm, comforted, and surrounded by love. We will never ask you to leave your pet’s side.
Is the process peaceful for my pet?
Yes. Your pet will first receive pain medicine and anesthesia under the skin to help them relax and fall asleep. The final medication is administered only once they are fully comfortable and unaware. It is pain free and peaceful from start to finish.
Can we just come to your Clinic?
We do not have a facility where clients or patients can visit. We are strictly a house call practice and our business does not have a physical location, but you are free to check out our Wildflower Jeep when we arrive at your location.
Why should I euthanize my pet? Is a natural death better?
Most diseases will not take your pet’s life quickly, but cause prolonged pain and suffering. For example, pets commonly suffer from arthritis and kidney disease, which can lead to a long, painful end-of-life process. When appropriate, euthanasia can help your pet pass comfortably before they suffer too much from a terminal disease. It’s important to remember that each disease process must be handled differently. Please speak with your family veterinarian, or view our common diseases page for cats or dogs for more information about your pet’s painful disease.
